The first edition of this work in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Illustrated with twenty-four colour plates, and numerous black-and-white in-text illustrations, by Honor C. Appleton (1879–1951), a popular British illustrator of children's books, including The Children's Alice. Mrs. H. C. Cradock, or Augusta Cradock, was a children's author. This charming anthology contains three of her stories from her The Adventures of Josephine series, including: 'Josephine and Her Dolls', 'Josephine's Happy Family', and 'Josephine is Busy', with a title page and frontispiece to each story. In these stories, Josephine hosts tea parties, weddings and trips to the seaside for her dolls, in which historical colour is added with small references to the First World War. Undated, dated through copies held at the British Library. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally, in lovely condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with just a touch of offsetting to the end papers.
